MLC Gallery in Sydney open his doors to Chilean artist Miriam Cabello Expo

07/07/2014

Chilean artist Miriam Cabello has a commitment with all painting lovers in Sydney with the new expo at the MLC Gallery about the military coup in Chile in 1973.“"First September 11 - the Chilean Military Coup 1973". Miriam Cabellos’s visceral art exposes the societal upheaval imposed on the Southern Cone by Economic Superpowers and their willing local agents. The exhibition will be open to the public between the 28th of June to the 12th of July.

Explaining the link between the Chilean Coup and 9/11 she explains that “for three decades, Milton Friedman and his followers had methodically exploited moments of shock in other countries – foreign equivalents of 9/11, starting with Pinochet’s coup on September 11, 1973. What happened on September 11, 2001 is that an ideology hatched in American universities and fortified in Washington institutions finally had its chance to come home”

Possessing a great talent for painting, Cabello has a career full of success and awards since 20 years ago. She started by winning the Channel Ten Young Achiever in 1994, but that was just one of the first achievements. In 2005, she won an important price in Florence, Italy, where she got recognition at the Fifth Annual International Biennial of Contemporary Art. Two years later, she obtained the 24th Manhattan Arts International prize in New York, in the Painting Division, and in 2009, achieved the award winner of American Institute of Architects (AIA), Design & Art for an art Installation at South Sydney Uniting Church, Waterloo. Moreover, she also got the award of National Art Museum of Sport in Indianapolis in 2011.

“In 1971, my parents fled the impending doom of Chile’s internationally backed dictatorship. This exhibition is inspired by my family’s rich history, political passions and personal experience”, she says to explain the reasons of her point of view and the sense of her work.
