WHERE WE'VE BEEN, WHAT WE'VE SEEN: July in Mount Tamborine

07/09/2014

If there is something that Australia has in common with Brazil, it is the climate. The weather does not represent a threat for us to adjust to our new country: The sun shines very often throughout the year; the blue skies, tinted in hues of orange and pink at dusk - this last, we see here more frequently than in our homeland. Even the winter starts gradually in June like a subtle blowing chill warning us that it is time to get the warm clothing ready. Then, we are prepared for the cold without being caught by surprise.

Despite the low temperatures, life can flow calmly, since there are some aspects of the country's culture that give us support to handle the heavy coats. One of these cultural aspects is the Christmas in July. The aim of this celebration at this time of the year is to experience Christmas like it is celebrated in the Northern Hemisphere. For that, the cold weather is a crucial factor and then one of the very good places to visit and enjoy this season with all that it brings is Mount Tamborine.

Mount Tambourine is located in the Gold Coast hinterland. The landscape is a rainforest spectacle. From the base to the top of the mountain, we can see giant trees and ferns among many other plant species. The road which permeates the mountain is very well maintained and very well signed, which makes the road, one of the favourites for motorcyclists. On the other hand, not only the beauty of the place can divert drivers’ attention, but the sinuosity of the roads as well. So, be attentive is one of the best precautions.

The place offers a range of attractions such as wine and liqueur  tasting, walking tracks, the weekend markets and the gallery walk with a variety of restaurants, clothes shops, art galleries and antiques;  The Fudges and Macadamias are amazing and the wonderful German cuckoo shop, are some with too many places to list. With so much going on at the same place, it is still possible to have a brief encounter with Santa Claus. Who knows this year he may again mark his presence on his huge yellow trike?
